The Safari Collection
Tanzania
The most iconic Hunting Safari Destination for Big Game in Africa.
The land of Kilimanjaro, known for its vast wilderness areas & Legendary hunters such as F.C. Selous, G. Rushby & J.A. Hunter, that capture the nostalgia of the 1920’s -1950’s – the golden years of hunting & etched in our hearts by Earnest Hemingway & Robert Ruark’s writings.
With an area of 363 000 square miles (2 x the size of Western Europe), few destinations in Africa can rival Tanzania’s diversity of Wildlife and landscapes. From the Serengeti plains to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, The Ngorogoro Crater, Rungwa & the Great Ruaha River.
Bordered by three of the largest lakes on the continent – Lake Victoria (largest in Africa), in the North, Lake Tanganyika (longest in the world) in the West and Lake Nyasa (Malawi) in the Southwest, all part of the Rift Valley.
Tanzania was our home for over 10 hunting seasons. The experiences, lessons learnt, and the intimate knowledge of the different hunting areas are crucial for success on safari.
Hunting in Tanzania is strictly controlled by the Tanzanian Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), with set quotas & licenses imposed. Wilderness areas are classified into:
National Parks – 21 where no hunting is permitted.
Game Reserves, Game Controlled Areas and Open Areas. Tanzania have 136 hunting concessions many serving as buffer zones to the National Parks.
There are basically 3 regions or ecosystems.
The Selous region (renamed Nyerere), primarily hunting blocks in & adjacent to the Nyerere Game Reserve.
Masailand - North & Central, in close proximity to Arusha & home to rarer species for collectors. A variety of East African gazelle and antelope occur such as Thompsons, Grants and Roberts Gazelle, Gerenuck, White Bearded Wildebeest, Coke’s Hartebeest, East African Impala, Lesser Kudu Fringed Eared Oryx & Dik Dik.
Western & Southern Tanzania, hunting areas such as Rungwa, Ruaha, Usangu, Rukwa, Lukwati, Lunda, Ugalla. The finest destination for Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Sable & Roan, Topi, East African Eland & East African Kudu & East African Sitatunga in wilderness conditions.
Having the largest population of wild lion (±16 000), Tanzania was the first country to require a minimum age of six years, verified by tooth section for a lion to be legal & is strictly enforced.
The Hemingway styled tented camps are comfortable, well appointed and of high standard. Most of the camps are temporary and have to be rebuilt in the beginning of each season. Logistic are challenging and expensive due to poor road networks & vast distances. This plus ever-changing Government fees contributes to high outfitters costs.
Due to the proximity to the Equator the annual variation in temperature is small. Inland the average temp during the day is +/- 27C and at night it can drop to +/ - 15 C.
Driest months are generally July – October & Rains typically begins in November – which makes hunting in the Western Blocks and Nyerere (Selous Game Reserve) practically impossible. Masailand – Northern Tanzania can be hunted all year round.
Hunting season – Presently Tanzania is open to year-round hunting.
Swahili is the Lingua Franca in Tanzania.
Arusha or Dar es Salaam is where safaris start.
Hunting here is a throw back to the golden days of safari where success is measured in skill and endurance rather than convenience.
In Tanzania we offer, Dangerous Game Safaris, Specialist Species Safaris and Photo Safaris.
Kenya
Kenya is the soul of the African safari, a land where the golden plains of the Masai Mara meet the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is where the great legends of safari were born, where Hemingway, Roosevelt, and Finch Hatton first felt the call of the wild. Today, Kenya remains the premier destination for photographic safaris, offering some of the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles on Earth.
The annual Great Migration—where over two million wildebeest and zebra cross the crocodile-infested Mara River—is a sight that defies imagination. Beyond the Mara, Amboseli National Park offers iconic views of elephants silhouetted against Africa’s tallest peak, while Samburu showcases rare species like the grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and gerenuk. Whether exploring the lakes of the Great Rift Valley, the predator-rich plains of Laikipia, or the remote, untamed landscapes of Tsavo, Kenya delivers an unrivaled photographic safari experience.

Ethiopia
Long known as Abyssinia, the land of the Queen of Sheba is a fascinating country with a rich heritage quite different from the rest of Africa.
Ethiopia is in the Horn of Africa, land locked and split by the Great Rift Valley. With archaeological finds dating back more than 3 million years, it is a place of ancient culture. Among its important sites are Lalibela with its rock-cut Christian churches from the 12th–13th centuries. Aksum is the ruins of an ancient city with obelisks, tombs, castles and Our Lady Mary of Zion church.
Ethiopia’s hunting regions can be classified into Mountains - Ethiopian Highlands, Savanna - Omo & Sala Valleys, and Desert hunts in the Danakil & afar region.
The Mountain Nyala, found only in Ethiopia’s rugged highlands, is considered Africa’s most priced trophy & may be the ultimate of all the spiral horns yet. The Mountain Nyala, bears more resemblance as per body size & looks to a Kudu. This 500lb antelope is found in heights ranging from 6 000 to 12 000 feet.
Other specialty species include Menelik’s bushbuck, and the Abyssinian Greater Kudu. In the low lying Danakil Depression to the North and the Omo hold excellent selection of East African game including lesser Kudu, Gerenuck, Somali Soemmerrings gazelle, Beisa Oryx & Salts Dik Dik.
Accommodations vary on the area you will be traveling to but mainly semi mobile camps. Temperatures range from cold, misty & wet at higher altitudes to extremely hot and dry in the Danakil & Omo.
Hunting in Ethiopia is a test of endurance, with rugged terrain & extreme elevations, demanding both physical and mental fortitude. Yet for those willing to undertake the challenge, the rewards are unmatched, with species found nowhere else in Africa.
Hunting season: Generally the dry season from October – February is best for Mountain Nyala and the cooler, dry months for the desert and savanna hunting.
Safaris start in Addis Ababa
In Ethiopia, we offer our Specialist Species Safaris
Uganda
“The Pearl of Africa” - Amazingly beautiful country from North to South. One of Hemingway’s favorite Countries to visit.
Uganda is in the African Great Lakes Region, lies almost completely within the Nile basin, bisected by the equator with a varied equatorial climate. Uganda is named after the Buganda Kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the South including Kampala (the largest city).
Geographically diverse with volcanic hills and mountains, the glacial Rwenzori Mountains (“Mountains of the Moon”), extinct volcanic cones such as Mt Elgon and the Virunga Volcanoes along its Southwestern border. Malawi
Malawi, often overlooked in favor of its larger neighbors, is a hidden paradise for wildlife photographers. Dubbed the "Warm Heart of Africa," this small but diverse country offers a rare blend of pristine wilderness, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. While it may not boast the vast game populations of Kenya or Tanzania, its unspoiled national parks and exclusive safari lodges provide intimate and immersive experiences away from the crowds.
Liwonde National Park, nestled along the banks of the Shire River, is a haven for photographers seeking close encounters with elephants, hippos, and crocodiles against the backdrop of lush wetlands. Majete Wildlife Reserve, once depleted but now a conservation success story, is home to the Big Five, offering a chance to capture lion, rhino, and buffalo in stunning, off-the-beaten-path settings. For those seeking a unique contrast, the crystal-clear waters and golden beaches of Lake Malawi provide a striking photographic contrast to the wildlife-rich savannas, making Malawi one of Africa’s most rewarding and undiscovered safari destinations.

Zambia
Blessed with awe-inspiring natural wonders, a plethora of wildlife, huge bodies of water and vast open spaces, Zambia offers unforgettable Safaris exploring the real Africa.
Previously known as Northern Rhodesia, Zambia is one of the most stable and peaceful nations. The country has never experienced war and boasts superb wildlife. Having had an influential family history in Zambia it lies close to our heart & one of our favorite countries to hunt and visit.
Graham’s great grandfather, Sir Richard Goode, served as the Governor of Northern Rhodesia & the Head of the Railways. He also designed the coat of arms for Northern Rhodesia, elements of which were incorporated into Zambia’s independent coat of arms.
After Tanzania (1973) & Kenya (1977) closed hunting, Zambia emerged as a “new” and alternate hunting destination in the late 1970’s offering Big Game, Plains Game, and various species endemic to Zambia such as, Cookson’s Wildebeest, Crawshay’s Waterbuck, Puku, and both Black, and Kafue Lechwe.
Primary hunting areas are the Luangwa Valley, Northeast of Lusaka, the Kafue plateau to the west & the Zambezi Valley to the South & the Benguela Wetlands in the North.
The concentration of animals around the Luangwa River, and its oxbow lagoons, is among the most intense in Africa. The Luangwa is a prime destination for Leopard and Lion with consistent track records for top -tier trophies. Buffalo, Hippo, Croc & an assortment of plains game.
Camps are traditional, neat and comfortable, each Banda (hut / room) with en-suite bathroom & “Cetengi” (mess / eating and sitting area) under huge Mahogany trees on the riverbanks. Sun rises and sun sets are a grand spectacle over the meandering river – God’s country!
We highly recommend taking a Red, Kafue & Black Lechwe & a Sitatunga in Zambia. It will require some traveling between the different areas.
Zambia has 19 national parks & 27 game management areas (GMA) with many private game ranches starting, with healthy game populations. With Low hunting pressure and vast untouched concessions, Zambia provides an authentic and exclusive safari experience.
Hunting season is from May to November. Safaris generally start from Lusaka – the Capital city.
In Zambia, we offer our Dangerous Game Safaris, Specialist Species Safaris and Photo Safaris
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe carries the legacy of the golden age of safari, one of the top Safari destinations in Africa, known for its Big Game; Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Hippo & Crocodile, alongside a fine selection of antelope species, including Kudu, Eland, Sable, Bushbuck & Waterbuck.
Hunting areas are typically either on Governmental, Tribal and Private land. The legendary Zambezi Valley to the North, Hwange Park corridor to the West and the Gonarezhou Park in the South East. To these must be added several vast conservancies, including Save Valley, Bubi River, & Nuanetsi together managing millions of acres of wildlife.
The habitat is mostly mopane forest, bushveld & dry, grassy savanna and hunting primarily during the dry cooler winter months; May – September.
Zimbabwe has always been great value for money especially for Big Game and a true wilderness experience with comfortable, well-appointed camps.
One of Zimbabwe’s greatest strengths is the Professional-hunter licensing system with the most rigid standards on the African continent.
Formerly known as Rhodesia, Zimbabwe is a land locked country, with the Victoria Falls in on the border between Zambia. The Victoria Falls is well worth a visit – one of the 7 wonders of the world & double the height of the Niagra Falls, offering an amazing end to your hunting safari & for the adventure seekers an array of activities such as river rafting, swimming at the edge of the Falls (Devil’s or Angel’s pool) and bungy jumping.
Safaris either start in Harare or Victoria Falls.
In Zimbabwe, we offer our Dangerous Game Safaris and Photo Safaris

Hunting in the Northern Niassa province is more remote & challenging, as with most Wilderness areas, good Buffalo, Leopard as well as Roosevelts Sable, Lichtenstein Hartebeest, Niassa Wildebeest & Livingstone Eland are available to hunt. Inselbergs, characterize the country in the North - known as Island mountains.
Colonialized by the Portuguese, Mozambique is a long narrow country along the Indian Ocean with 2300 km of unspoiled coastline. Renowned for its tropical white sand beaches & pristine tropical islands, well worth a visit if time allows after a safari.

Botswana
Botswana is a Country of contrasts, a place where crystal clear water forms an oasis in a great desert. About miracle rivers that create a lush plain and then disappear into the sands of the Kalahari Desert.
Though famous for its photographic safaris, it remains a premier destination for hunting big elephants, the heaviest – on – average ivory & the highest population in Africa.
The sprawling game concessions of the Kalahari and Mopane Woodlands offer dangerous game opportunities, including Buffalo & limited Leopard quota, with plains game species such as Kudu & Gemsbok mainly on private land.
With a strong emphasis on sustainable use conservation, hunting in Botswana is highly regulated ensuring exceptional quality over quantity. Hunting generates significant income for communities and funding government conservation efforts. A ban on hunting on community lands was lifted in 2019, citing high human – wildlife conflict and financial needs.
The hunting season is from April to September.
In Botswana we offer, Dangerous Game Safaris – (mainly Elephant) & Photo Safaris.

Home to the best trophy quality Gemsbuck, Springbuck (Kalahari) & Red Hartebeest in Africa, with the largest free- range cheetah population and offers outstanding hunting of Black Faced Impala & Hartman’s Zebra.
Namibia is also the best destination for Damara Dik-Dik, a member of the Tiny Ten, making it a must visit for collectors.
The hunting areas are both ranch land & government concessions covering vast areas. The hunting season is year-round but April – October are the best suitable for hunting.
Safaris start in Windhoek - the capital city.
No safari would be complete without a photographic trip to Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei, Skeleton Coast or Swakopmund on the West coast.

Republic of Congo
The Republic of Congo should not be confused with its neighbor the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
For those seeking true adventure the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville Congo) offers one of the most unique and difficult hunts in the world – Bongo Hunting in the dense Equatorial Rainforest.
These elusive spiral horned antelope are among Africa’s most challenging trophies, requiring exceptional tracking skills and patience.
In addition to Bongo the Congo offers the opportunity to hunt Dwarf Forest Buffalo, Forest Sitatunga and various Duikers.
The Logging roads and clearings in the Forest are utilized to pick up a tracks or any sign early mornings. Tracking and stalking are the primary method of hunt, using Baka trackers & dogs through dense undergrowth. Machans on salt licks or open bays are used mainly for Sitatunga, Bongo and Buffalo.
Basic clean and well ventilated camps are constructed from timber, sourced from old Timber mills and generally raised to avoid water. Expect deep jungle, high humidity, a physical and mental challenge.
Hunting here is an expedition into one of Africa’s last great wildernesses where success is hard earned but deeply rewarding.
In Republic of Congo, we offer our Specialist Species Safaris
Cameroon
Cameroon offers both savanna and rainforest hunting, making it one of Africa’s most diverse destinations. The Savanna regions in the North provide outstanding opportunities for Lord Derby Eland (Giant Eland), Western Roan and Harnessed Bushbuck, Northwestern Buffalo & Korrigum (Giant Topi) etc. While the Equatorial rainforest of the South is home to the highly sought after Bongo and Forest Sitatunga, Dwarf Buffalo and various Duikers.
The Lord Derby Eland & the Bongo are rated as the 2nd & 3rd iconic trophy species in Africa for rarity, beauty & difficulty to hunt.
The Lord Derby Eland (Savanna hunts) & the Bongo (Forest species) are generally hunted as two separate Safaris. The North – Savanna is generally best during the dry winter months, late December through early April.
The forests in the South are best to hunt after the rains start late April through June. The rains make tracking quieter & easier as most forest species tend to be more active during the rains.
Most safaris in Cameroon are termed “successful” by taking either your Bongo or Eland & 1-2 Duikers. Safaris are physically & mentally demanding. The conditions; weather, visibility & traveling are tough and advanced African hunting experience is required especially for the Forest Species, but the rewards are worth it.
The French influence is dominant in Cameroon and Safaris start in Douala - the biggest city. Basic clean and well-ventilated camps are constructed from timber sourced from old Timber mills and generally raised to avoid the water.
The combination of variety, remoteness and exclusivity make it a top choice for serious collectors.
Graham has been hunting the Cameroon since 1996.
